Delos™ and Shimizu Corporation Form Landmark Alliance to Integrate Health and Well-being into the Built Environment
New York, New York (May 12, 2017) – Delos™, a wellness real estate and technology firm, today announces the first landmark alliance in Japan with Shimizu Corporation, a leading construction, architectural, engineering and property services, offering an integrated, comprehensive planning, design and build solutions for a broad range of construction and engineering projects worldwide to accelerate the transformation of indoor environments into spaces that promote human health and wellness. The new relationship will leverage Shimizu’s extensive network of sustainable building services clients to further expand the global reach of the International WELL Building Institute’s™ (IWBI™) WELL Building Standard™ (WELL), which is the world’s first building standard focused exclusively on the effects of the built environment on human health and well-being.

Through the collaboration, Shimizu will also become a member of the Well Living Lab™, a collaboration between Delos and Mayo Clinic and the world’s first human-centered research lab dedicated to understanding the relationship between the built environment and human health and wellness.
Furthering leveraging Shimizu’s industry reach and experience, coupled with Delos’ insight and resources, Shimizu will also engage in Delos’ applied research services, creating an alliance that will become a global leader in innovative research surrounding the impact of the built environment on occupants’ perceived health and well-being, as well as add to the growing body of knowledge around the business case for decisions that support the health and well-being of people through better buildings.

Recognizing the importance of providing WELL to its clients, Shimizu will pursue WELL Certification for two of its offices as well as over 20 projects domestically and internationally over the course of the next six months.
Focused on providing consistent value creation for clients, Shimizu has launched a strategic long-term initiative, “Smart Vision 2010,” to further enhance best practices across all business lines. As part of this initiative, it will help 150 of its employees achieve their WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP™) credential, which signifies advanced knowledge in human health and wellness in the built environment and specialization in WELL. Shimizu professionals will be well equipped to provide clients with tools to realize the benefits of WELL and guide current and future projects toward WELL Certification. Additionally, to assist with continued education in the field of WELL Certified buildings, two employees will apply to IWBI’s WELL Faculty program, using Shimizu’s reputation as a thought leader and educator to advance WELL’s uptake in the real estate industry.
