U.S. Conference of Mayors Passes Wellness in Real Estate™ Resolution
Mayors Resolve to Incorporate New Design Elements and Features that Promote Wellness in the Built Environment
New York, NY (June 27, 2013) – On the heels of the 81st Annual Meeting of The United States Conference of Mayors, Delos®, the Pioneer of Wellness Real Estate™, is pleased to announce that the U.S. Conference of Mayors has voted unanimously to pass the Wellness in Real Estate Resolution. Through the adoption of the Wellness in Real Estate resolution, the elected mayoral leaders have resolved to encourage buildings to use elements and design features of the WELL Building Standard™, which will enhance the well-being of occupants and improve the health and wellness of residents of the United States.
“As a member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and author of the WELL Building Standard – the world’s first building standard focused exclusively on human health and wellness – Delos is thrilled to see such strong and unanimous support for wellness designs,” said Delos Founder Paul Scialla. “Delos is committed to improving the way people live by developing residential, commercial, hospitality and office spaces that optimize people’s health and enhance their quality of life, and we look forward to working with Mayors from across the country to implement our evidence-based wellness solutions into the built environment.”
Originally sponsored by Philadelphia Mayor and President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Michael A. Nutter, the Wellness in Real Estate resolution was exceptionally well-received from mayors across the country. Upon its introduction at the USCM Annual Meeting, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn S. Goodman volunteered to co-sponsor the resolution along with a handful of other mayors across various states.
The resolution is the first of its kind to address preventable health concerns and costs through the improvement of built environments, and its unanimous adoption reflects the strong encouragement and support for new technologies and design-solutions such as those that Delos has created in order to integrate wellness into all building types including homes, hotels, offices, schools, community centers, hospitals and other commercial environments.
Announced in September 2012 by President Bill Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, Delos’ WELL Building Standard is the result of six years of research, development and collaboration with a board of researchers and doctors from Columbia University Medical School, as well as with architects, engineers and contractors. Placing personal wellness and quality of life at the heart of its design and construction, the WELL Building Standard integrates the best of medical science and preventative healthcare to create built environments that support and protect the physical and emotional well-being of individuals. Each Delos building is designed to combat the onset of disease and deteriorating health, dispel current ailments and improve one’s quality of life through innovative, healthy features.
Delos’ mission to promote wellness into the built environment is supported by an Advisory Board of luminaries in wellness, science, public policy and business.
